MISCELLANEOUS STUD POKER VARIANTSFive and Ten Stud Poker In this variation which can be used in any type of five, six, or seven-card-stud, mixed fives and tens are wild, but you must have at least one of each. Example: If you hold one five or more and no ten, the fives are not wild. The same holds true if you hold one or more tens and no five. However, if you hold one or more fives and one or more tens, all fives and tens are wild. Deuces and threes may be used instead of fives and tens if desired. Four of a kind are common in this variation. Two-Leg Stud In this variation, which can be used in any stud game, no player may rake in the pot until he has won two hands. These need not be won consecutively. These need no be won consecutively. This is an exciting and thrilling gimmick for building big pots. Baseball Stud This is dealt like Seven-Card-Stud with the first two and the last card dealt face down. A three-spot upcard strikes a player out, and out he goes no matter how much he has contributed to the pot, and regardless of how good his hand may be. The nine are wild whether face up or face down, and a four dealt face up to a player gives him an extra face-up card. The holder of the four-spot receives his extra card after all the players have been dealt their upcards for that round. A three or a four in the hole has no special significance it is played the same as other no valued cards. The betting is the same as any seven-card stud variation. After the first upcard is dealt a betting round takes place and every round thereafter. It usually takes a flush or better to win a pot, but a straight will occasionally stand up. Football This game is the same as Baseball except that all sixes and four are wild, a four requires a player to match the pot or drop out, and a deuce entitles to an extra hole card. Woolworth In this Seven-Card Stud game, fives and tens are wild. A player dealt a five face up must pay 5 chips to the pot or drop out, and a player dealt a ten face up must pay 10 chips to the pot or drop out. Note: Woolworth is sometimes played poker so that a player is knocked out (must drop from the game ) if a ten is dealt face up. In this version, the holder of the five does not have to ante extra chips to the pot. Heinz This Seven-Card Stud game is played with fives and sevens wild but a player dealt one of these cards face up must match the pot or drop. Dr. Pepper This Seven-Card Stud game is played with all tens, fours, and twos wild. There is no penalty or extra chips required when they are exposed. Note: Some play that when a deuce is exposed as upcard the player must put two chips in the pot or drop if a four is dealt up, four chips must be put in the pot or the player must drop; and when a ten is exposed, the player must pay ten chips to pot or drop. Four Forty-Four This is an Eight–Card Stud game in which four cards are dealt face down, one at a time in a clockwise rotation. Then one card is dealt face up and there is a betting round. Then three more upcards are given, with a betting interval after each. All fours are wild. Three Forty-Five Similar to Four Forty-Four except that only three cards are dealt face down at the start. There is a betting round after each of the next four upcards is dealt. Then the eighth card is dealt face down and there is a final betting interval. All fives are wild. Seven-Card Flip In this variation of Seven-Card Stud Poker, four face-down cards are dealt to each player. After examining them he may turn up any two of them. There is a betting interval, then play proceeds as in regular Seven-Card Stud, with three more cards dealt, two up and one down, a betting interval following each. Kankakee or Albemarle In this Seven-Card Stud variation, there is a betting round after two hole cards are dealt, beginning with the player at the dealer’s left. Then, the first face-up cards to each player is wild and all like it are wild to that player only. After the wild cards are given there is a betting interval, starting with the online poker player at dealer’s left. Three more face-up cards and one final face-down card are then dealt to each active player, with a betting interval after each. Rollover This game, which is also called Beat Your Neighbor, Beat It, No Peekie, and No Lookie, is similar to Seven-Card Stud except for the following:
Night Baseball This game, which is also called No-Peekie Baseball, is a combination of Rollover and Baseball Stud. That is, the threes and nines are wild, but when a three comes up, the player must drop or pay a penalty. Any four rolled up entitles the recipient to an additional card, which the dealer immediately gives him, face up, from the top of the pack. In the play of the game, each player in rotation turns up his cards, one by one, until his showing combination beats any cards previously turned, after which there is a betting interval. Remember that no one can look at his cards until they are exposed to all. The penalty for peeking should be stiff, say five chips for each card that is face down or at the beginning of the game twenty-five chips. Pass the Garbage This game, which is also called Screw Your Neighbor, is a stud poker game in which seven cards are dealt to each player face down. This is followed by a round of betting. After the bet, each player passes three cards to the individual on his left. After another betting round, each player discards two cards, making his best high hand, or his best low hand, if high-low is played. Then four cards are turned up, one at a time, with a bet after each card. After the final betting interval, there is a showdown. Basketball To add more activity to Pass the Garbage, some players add an extra passing round. After the first betting interval, each player passes three cards to the player on his left. There is a betting period, after which each player passes two cards to the person on his left. (The game can also be played where the players first pass three cards to the right and then on the next round they pass two to the left.) Then each player discards two cards, and after a final betting round, there is a showdown at which the high hand takes the pot. This game can also be played high-low. Anaconda This game is played like Seven-Card Stud except for the following:
Note: Frequently, Anaconda is played with only one passing phase. That is, rules 3 and 4 are omitted. Screwy Louie This game is played the same as Anaconda, except that each player passes his two discards to the active player nearest his left. On receipt of these discards the player may use either or both of the cards in his hand. But, before the game rolling begins, he must place two discards in the center of the table, face down. Follow the Queen In this game, which is also called Follow the Lady, the card and all of the same rank following the last queen turned face up on the table is wild. If the last card turned up to an active player is a queen, then nothing is wild. The cards may be dealt as in seven-card stud: three down, four up; or the first two cards may be dealt down and the remaining five may be turned face up. The latter method is usually preferred, and there is a betting interval after each face up card round. This game is most interesting since the wild card may change several times during the game each time a queen is turned up and there is always a possibility that nothing will be wild, should a queen be exposed on the last card dealt. In this game there can never be more than four wild cards in play . Follow the King Also called Follow the Cowboy, this game is played in the same manner as follow the Queen, except that the card, and all of the same rank, following the last exposed king is wild. If the last card exposed to an active player is a king, then nothing is wild. Follow Mary This game is played like Follow the Queen except that all queens are wild cards. In other words, the queen, whether in hole or face up, is always wild; also, the card, and all cards of the same denomination following the last-exposed queen, are wild. This means that there could be a total of eight wild cards in play poker. Of Course, if the last card exposed to an active player is a queen, then only queens are wild. Curaçao Stud Curaçao Stud, or Dutch Stud is a very unusual form of Stud, which is most popular in the Netherlands and the Dutch West Indies. It is played as follows: Put-and-Take Stud Poker Put-and-Take Stud is one of the best banking games in the poker family. As in most banking games, the dealer banks the game and players bet against the dealer. Two to eight players may participate but five or six makes the best game. The game is played like Five-Card Stud with the following exceptions and additional rules:
The dealer has a chip advantage equal to the original antes. However, with a rotating deal, this advantage is equalized. Acey-Deucey This is a form of two-card poker popular in the United States Army. Each player is dealt two cards, one up and one down. He may stand on the cards he is dealt, or at any later time, or he may draw by discarding one of his cards and being dealt a replacement (when his turn comes). If he discards a face-down if he discards face-up card, the replacement is face-up. If he draws one card he pays the pot one chip; for a second card he pays two chips, and for a third card five chips. Betting begins when all hands have stood. High card bets, as in Stud Poker. The game is usually played high-low. Only pairs and high cards count. Highest hand is two aces; lowest hand is ace and deuce, since the ace is treated as low when the player tries for low (but a pair of aces is never a low pair). Winners split the total pot, including bets and chips paid to draw cards. |
